Fly to Singapore and stop over

 12th and 13th Dec 2025

Viking had  organised airport transfers so we found ourselves at Zurich Airport more than 3 hrs before the flight departure time of 10.30 am. after a short wait for the check in to open, we checked in and headed to departures.

Zurich airport has a unique design feature, there are several levels/floors of security clearance. The general departure level was busy, so we were directed to go down 2 flights of stairs, past another level of security clearance scanners, to basement level to get screen and then had to come back up to the general level to make further progress.we wandered through stores, had some breakfast and then had to go through immigration. This was not a good experience.

Non EU passport holder queues were long and only one booth was manned at the section we went through. at least it filled in time, but it was surprising how outdated the processing here was compared to modern airports.

Finally at our gate, the only entertainment was a garbage bin robot, that made a nuisance of itself wandering around the departure area looking for someone to feed it some rubbish.

The flight left on time and we arrived in Singapore slightly ahead of schedule. As usual in Singapore, imigration clearance was a breeze, all automated these days like many airports. There was very little wait for luggage and we were at our hotel by 6.30 am. We bought an early check in so we could have a shower and a bit of a snooze before doing anything else.

across the road from the hotel is a large shopping centre, food hall and plenty of hawker stalls. we had lunch in the food hall filling ourselves with a few old favourites, had a walk around for an hour or so and headed back to the hotel as the weather looked threatening.

Hawker stalls

It's Durian season and there are plenty of interested buyers

Soon after we got back to the hotel, the heavens opened and we had a few hours of solid rain, so we stayed inside only to venture out to a local for dinner when the weather had settled down.

We fly home tomorrow after a great holiday with much milder weather than we had anticipated, so not all of the warm clothes came out of the suitcase.
