At Sea en route to Casablanca

 23/11/2025

Sea conditions have improved markedly after departure from from Algiers and there is very little ship movement through the night and we wake to almost glassy seas with a swell of around 0.5 m, and 8 knots of breeze from the West.

Today, the highlight will be passing through the Gibraltar Strait which we expect to do at around 6 pm, very close to sunset. As we get closer to Gibraltar, the amount of shipping increases dramatically, and the mountains in Spain are in clear view, some of them snow capped.

At around 5.30 pm, we can see the Rock of Gibraltar and are hopeful we will get to the Strait in daylight. Fortunately, as we pass the Rock we still have enough light to get a few photos. It is now very windy as the wind rushes through the narrow Strait which is only 14 km wide.

The sun is already setting and on the port side of the ship, we can see the Southern side of the Strait and the sunset.

We spent about an hour out on deck in the strong wind taking in the experience of going through the strait  in daylight, as previously it was always night time.

Not really feeling like going to the restaurant tonite we opted to have a drink at the Aquavit Bar at the stern of the ship, and have dinner in the World Cafe which is the buffet restaurant.

It turned out to be a good decision, as the bar was not at all crowded, and we ended up dining with another Australian couple who were also from the Northern Beaches. There are apparently 67 Australians on board.

Tomorrow we arrive in Casablanca and have a pretty full day booked.
