At Sea en route to Algeria

Viking Saturn is rolling around a bit today with 4 to 5 m seas on the forward quarter and winds up to around 30 knots WNW. However it is not uncomfortable on board, and hopefully it will clear by tomorrow when we are planned to berth at Algiers at around 7am.


We have had rain, sunshine, rainbows but the wind has not let up and we are mainly sailing into it as we are pretty much sailing due West. The outside decks are wet and with the strong winds, the daily walk around the deck is not possible today.


A brief respite from the rain

As the day progresses, the swell moves around to be more on the beam increasing the motion of the ship.

The highlight of the day was the Port talk this afternoon to provide information on what to expect tomorrow in Algiers. The overall message was that Algiers is pretty new to the tourism game and it might be a bit underwhelming, but we shall see. The good news was that the weather is expected to be better than today, with no rain expected.

 12/11/2025 and 13/11/25 Our flight doesn't depart for Barcelona until 11.45 pm today, so we have a day to fill in at a leisurely pace. It is a little overcast today and a comfortable mid 20's temperature forecast, although as usual, there is high humidity.  Morning view from our room First we need to have breakfast and there are lots of options, other than the usual hotel buffet. We wandered around the shopping centre across the road and the hawker centre, but in the end opted to take a short walk up to East Coast Road, to a French Cafe franchise, Merci Marcel. It turned out to be a good choice, as it was nicely air conditioned and the food was very good, including the coffee ! On Our Way

 11/11/2025 It has been a long day, but at least we have been spared from Albo's rewriting of history speeches about his old mate Gough. I thought today was Remembrance Day. Off to not a great start, the traffic this morning to the airport was horrendous. Fortunately, we had plenty of time up our sleeve, it just meant spending less time waiting in the terminal. Check in with Singapore Airlines, Premium Economy was a breeze and we didn't experience much of a delay going through immigration.  The flight left the terminal on time, but then sat in a queue waiting to take off for 30 mins. The plane is very comfortable and the Premium Economy layout on the Airbus 380, offers plenty of legroom and comfortable seats. Once in the air, we were told that flying conditions were very good and we could expect to arrive in Singapore at 5.45 PM. Civitavecchia, Rome

 16/11/2025 Another mild day is ahead of us as we dock at Civitavecchia, the Port of Rome. It is quite a distance to the city of Rome from here, so day tours start early and run for about 8 hours. Our tour leaves at 8 .20 am, and is one of many, Fortunately, there do not appear to be a lot of cruise boats in port when we arrive. The bus trip to the city takes around 1 hour, and once there we have about 1.5 hours of sightseeing in the bus before disembarking in the middle of the City for 4 hours of free time.  Our tour bus tour takes us past a few of the outer lying attractions including the Colosseum, old city walls etc, much of which was not able to be photographed from a moving bus, especially if the attraction was on the other side of the bus.
